Charles “Charlie” Michael Egresitz, of Harrisburg, PA crossed his final bridge into the arms of Jesus at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2020 he was 92. Charlie was born December 22, 1927 at home in Steelton Pennsylvania to John and Theresa (Pilsitz) Egresitz.
Corporal Charles Egresitz, US Army, from January 18, 1951 – December 9, 1953. He was a former Prisoner of War in Korea from July 14, 1952 – August 29, 1953. He received the Purple Heart Award for wounds received in action in Korea on June 14, 1952. His Unit of Service was 160th Regiment, 40th Division, Starburst. He was an active member of The Moose, American Legion, Post 420 Steelton, VFW, POW & Purple Heart Organization, The Ride Home, D.A.V. National and The Gray Beards. Through the years his association with Veterans meant the most to him. There were telephone calls, meetings, luncheons and reunion gatherings that were so important to him. Their circle of friendship, always secure, always helping one another. Charlie and his wife Judy, along with board members organized many yearly reunions for Veterans from all over the United States. That was one of his greatest accomplishments.
Charlie worked hard all of his life. He worked at various places including the Texas Towers in the ocean, he ran and operated his own poolhall, bartended for his brother Frank at Lobo’s Lounge, and later retired from the Navy Depot.
Charlies retirement years were always full of love and laughter. Together, Charlie and his wife, traveled to various places in the United States. One of their favorite places to travel, included their honeymoon destination was to South Bend, Indiana to see their favorite college football team, Notre Dame. All of his life he was an avid supporter and season ticket holder of Notre Dame. Because of his enthusiasm and love for ND his grandson Jason became a fan at age 11. Before the games they enjoyed tailgating, meeting the players & coaches at the football luncheons. It was a thrill of a lifetime. The beautiful campus became alive to them on football weekends. As the football season ended, Charlie waited impatiently for the next season to begin. And then it all began again, plans for the new season, hotels, travel plans, tailgating parties, games with friends.
He was a devoted husband and is survived by the love of his life, and wife of 39 years, Judy, Harrisburg, PA; children Tom Termin and wife Diane, Tammy Lysaght and husband Dan; and Donna Martin. Grandchildren Jason Sweger, Jennifer Jumper husband Jeremy, and Nikki Johnson husband Zack. Great-grandchildren, Hayden, Crosby and Charlee Ann. Charlie is also survived by his loving sister Anna Roberts a host of nieces, nephews other beloved family and friends.
Charlie is proceeded in death by his parents Theresa and John Egresitz, 3 brothers John (Yonko), Joe, Frank and 3 sisters Kate, Mary, Helen and son-in-law Ken Sweger.
A viewing will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, August 11, 2020 between 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Mask and social distancing will be observed. Interment will be at the Gap at a later date.
