Charles R. Day, a lifelong trucker driver and long-time resident of York Haven, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, at home on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the age of 82.

Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Shirley A. Day; two daughters, Tammy A. Morrett (Christopher Morrett, spouse) of Germania, PA and Anita L. Alwine (Jim Alwine, spouse) of Palmyra, PA; five grandchildren, Kristen Dorman, Brittany Morrett, Zachary Morrett, Orion Bekelja, and Alyia ‘Booters’ Barnes; eight great-grandchildren, Makenna Morrett, Madison Morrett, Alan Morrett-Powell, Karson Morrett, Skylar Morrett-Powell, Molly Greider, Logan Horst, and Sutton Dorman; sibling, Gene Day; numerous nieces and nephews; and long-time employer, Mark Stanley, with whom he viewed as his son. He is preceded in death by; his parents, John R. and Beulah A. Day, of Washingtonville, PA and sixteen brothers and sisters.

Charlie was born on March 28, 1938 in Washingtonville, PA. He worked on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 17.  Charlie served his country proudly in Korea for 18 months after marrying his wife, Shirley, in December of 1956.  Upon returning home from active duty, he started his lifelong career as a truck driver. Charlie continued to drive truck up until March of 2020 with his employer, Mark’s Paving, furthermore, exhibiting his tireless work ethics.  Charlie had a passion for landscaping and yard work in addition to washing and waxing one of his ‘big-rigs’ or his infamous Cadillac.  Charlie may have been stubborn more often than not, but he enjoyed spending time with his girls, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for holidays, family BBQs, or whenever his wife made chicken potpie for supper.  He never hung up his tractor keys after a long day’s work outside without making sure every grandchild or great-grandchild that was present got a ride with him around the yard.  In addition to spending quality time with his family, Charlie would have been caught playing online poker in his sitting room or enjoying a western rerun, wrestling, the latest episode of The Walking Dead, NASCAR, or televised murder trial.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5th, 2020 at Sullivan Funeral Home in Enola, PA.  Viewing arrangements will start promptly at 10:00 AM followed by a brief service at 11:00 AM before making the journey to Odd Fellow Cemetery in Danville, PA.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Miracle Network and/or Angels of Alyssa.

The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Day family.
