Elyzabeth Ann Briody Fry, aged 94, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.  She was born on February 2, 1927, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania to the late Bartholomew and Susan (Snavely) Briody.  Aside from her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother John Briody, sister Julia Briody Boltz, both of Mt. Gretna, and a great-grandson, William Sweger, of Landisburg.

“Betty” graduated from Lebanon High School, received her B.A. from Lebanon Valley College and her Master’s Degree in Education from Temple University.  She was a teacher and an administrator in the East Pennsboro School District for a number of years before becoming an Intermediate Unit Reading Specialist for the Harrisburg Schools for seventeen years, from which she retired.  Betty was married for fifty-four years to William “Bill” Fry, who was also an educator and administrator in the East Pennsboro School District.  Together, they traveled abroad to many countries and especially enjoyed visiting schools and meeting students as part of their travels.
In addition to her beloved husband, Betty is survived by her three children, Jon Sherman (wife Sharon Friedler) of Philadelphia, David Sherman (partner Jeannette Walters) and Susan Rider (husband Thomas), all of Mechanicsburg.  She also leaves behind three loving grandchildren: Thomas Rider (wife Stephy (Findley)) of Mechanicsburg, Amy (Rider) Nesbit (husband Derek) of Landisburg and Midora Middleton of Philadelphia. Betty was fortunate to have nine great-grandchildren: Elyzabeth, Mercedes, Leyna, Aaliyah, William, Annabelle, Denni, Lily and Levi.  Her very first great-great-grandchild is due in September. Numerous nieces and nephews were also very dear to Betty, along with her long time friends.

In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that donations be made in her memory to Hospice of Central PA, Four Diamonds, Doctors without Borders or the charity of your choice. Arrangements will be announced at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Fry family.

  1. Aunt Betty Ann and Uncle Bill always went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. She spoiled us every summer at the family picnic. Betty Ann was loved by everyone she met. She will be missed by thousands.
    Sending hugs to the family.
