June M. Roberto, 80, of Carlisle, PA passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Penn State University Hampden Medical Center.
June was born in Bellefonte, PA on July 3, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Lois Baker of Grantville, PA (wife of the late Edward W. Baker, Sr.) & Charles Martin of Barnwell, SC (husband to the late Mildred Martin). Though she was raised, primarily, by her loving maternal grandparents, the late Maurice & Grace Whitehill of Enola, PA.
June was a 1959 graduate of Central Dauphin High School. Though she would tell you that her heart always remained at Cumberland Valley where she was a member of its first ever freshman class. She proudly sat on the committee that voted on many of CV’s beloved traditions, like their school colors and mascot. Go Eagles!
June also graduated from Harrisburg’s School of Nursing at Polyclinic in 1962. While she left the nursing profession to be a stay-at-home mom for a time, she eventually returned to her nursing roots as a pediatric nurse for the late Dr. Alfred Meneely. Eventually bringing her heart full circle, she retired from the Cumberland Valley School District as the school nurse at Middlesex Elementary.
While June was equally as happy relaxing on a beach, sitting in the front seat of a roller coaster, or strolling down Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg, VA; her favorite place was in her home, and her love of it was apparent. She enjoyed cooking & gardening, and there wasn’t anything she couldn’t knit or sew. She made hundreds of hats, shawls, and blankets. She crafted plastic mats out of grocery bags for local homeless shelters, and even in her advanced stage of ALS she insisted on lovingly weaving one last blanket for her doctor’s newborn baby. Her sewing skills were vast, making curtains & cushions worthy of interior design, her own original wedding dress, prom & flower girl gowns, dance recital costumes, and perhaps her family’s favorite - Halloween costumes.
Originally a Bellefonte native, June’s love of that general area encompassed all things Penn State and she made countless trips over The Seven Mountains to State College, enjoying all that that town and campus had to offer - most especially Penn State football games. We Are! She also closely followed Penn State Wrestling, Cumberland Valley football & wrestling and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
June served both on the Board of Elections (Hampden Township) & as a Republican Committee Woman for Cumberland County/Middlesex Township, and she was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
June married Frank Roberto in December of 1968, and everyone who has heard their love story agrees it is one for the ages. In addition to her husband, June is survived by her daughter & son-in-law Amy & Michael Comiskey, and her three grandchildren, Rocco, Martia & Bruno.
A viewing will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 10:00AM - 12:00PM with funeral services immediately after. A brief graveside service will commence at 1:45PM at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, in Union Deposit, Harrisburg.
