Betty entered into rest on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in Harrisburg, PA. She was the daughter of the late Russell M. and Mary M. (Schramm) Marzolf of Summerdale, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Rhoades of 55 years.

Betty was born on January 30, 1929 in Summerdale, PA. She was a 1947 graduate of Enola High School. After graduation she worked for Senator George N. Wade until she became a secretary for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Her career continued in insurance until her retirement, at which time she was an Underwriter for Fireman’s Fund.

She was a long time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Enola, PA. 

Mrs. Rhoades is survived by her son Brian E. Rhoades, Sr. (wife Margaret), Enola, PA and her seven grandchildren: Brian (wife Elizabeth) Rhoades, Jr., Irvine, PA, Elizabeth (husband Steven) Coverdale, Mechanicsburg, PA, Edward (wife Tammy) Rhoades, Enola, PA, Michael Rhoades, Enola, PA, Thomas Rhoades, Enola, PA Sarah (husband Alex) McDaniel, Kent, WA. and Katherine (husband Clint) Kitner, New Bloomfield, PA. Her seven great-grandchildren; Brian Rhoades III, Rebecca Shank, Ashley Rhoades, Aaron and Mikaela Coverdale, Gavin Rhoades and Leah McDaniel. Five step-great-grandchildren; Julia Heller, Nicholas Huff, Jayden Glynn, Hannah and Kaiden Kitner. As well as two great great-grand children. And one sister, Helen I. Laverty, Enola, PA.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Russell M. Marzolf, Jr., and eight sisters:

Mary M. Defuge, Mildred R. Nail, Marguerite B. McGinnis, Julia C. Sparrow, Frances E. McBride, Pauline B. Rhoades, Anna M. Kiner and Ruth E. Tobias.

In her retirement Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing BINGO, knitting, attending stage plays, watching TV. Most of all she enjoyed watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. She had a great love of Dachshunds; her latest was her best companion Chad.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or the Humane Society of Harrisburg.

There will be a private viewing for family members only. Interment will be at the Resurrection Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA, with graveside services on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 10AM.
