Donald Elwood Bretz, aged 95, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, while living at Green Ridge Village, Newville, PA. Don was born in Harrisburg, PA on the 2nd of March, 1928 to the late Elwood Bretz & Esther (Funk) Bretz, but raised by his Great Aunt and Uncle, Joshua and Helen Bretz from West Fairview, PA. Donald was married to Helen “Betty” (Harlan) for almost 67 years. Betty B preceded Dad in death and has been waiting for his arrival.

Don was an avid Bible scholar, teacher and missionary. He took many missionary trips to Mexico, Latin America and Russia to spread the Gospel and build churches. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He not only worked on trains in the Enola Yards, but was also in East Altoona as the General Superintendent of the Allegheny Division of the railroad.

Don served his country during the Korean War. While stationed in Korea, he was part of a team that worked together to map that country.

Donald is survived by his son Stephen Bretz and wife Debra from West Fairview. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Tia Bretz-Lewis and husband Rodney from Harrisburg and Jason Bretz and wife Megan from Pflugerville, TX. Donald was also blessed with 2 great-grandchildren, Rowan and Declan Bretz, both also from TX.

Private funeral services will be held at the discretion of the family. Thank you for your prayers.
