Donald G. Beaver, Sr., 85, passed away on Saturday, October 25th at Holy Spirit Hospital. Don was born March 27, 1929 in Milton, PA to the late Clyde H. and Carrie A. (Oyster) Beaver, and was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
Don is survived by his wife, Elisabeth Jane (Mensch) of 54 years, four children, and one grandson. Joanne and her husband Sherman Thurston of Mechanicsburg; Donald, Jr., his wife Tricia (Morrow), and their son Andrew of Marysville, David of Enola, Karen Wiley and her husband Mark of Mechanicsburg, and several other relatives.
Don served as a machinist in the US Navy for nine years on the USS Roanoke on tours in the Mediterranean. He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 520, and worked in the Harrisburg area as an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic for over thirty years.
In his retirement, Don enjoyed spending time at Silver Spring Race Track watching his son Don, Jr. race, and spending time with the pit crew. He had an avid curiosity about anything mechanical and loved to tinker. His greatest joy, though, was taking scooter rides with his dachshund, Sparky, and making people smile with his many stories.
Visitation will be Friday, October 31st from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a service following from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home at 51 N. Enola Drive in Enola.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to PAWS of Central PA or the Humane Society of Harrisburg.
The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Beaver family.
