Douglas Eugene Forbes, 68, went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
After years of battling physical challenges, he is whole and at rest. Born to the late Elmer (Jim) and Dorothy Forbes, Doug was a lifelong resident of Enola. Doug was united in marriage with Audrey Fay Fox of Avoca, New York, on July 18, 1970. Audrey, whom Doug called ‘Sweetie or Barefoot,’ stood by him through life’s many challenges throughout their marriage of nearly 48 years.
Doug loved people, numbers, and lunch comprised of “a hamburger, french fries and a diet soda.” His favorite job was his first, as a bank teller. After health complications made that position impossible, he worked at Wonderful Wanda’s Warehouse restaurant, then for East Pennsboro School District, 25 years.
Doug enjoyed doing his finances at his roll top desk, brewing his homemade root beer, The Price is Right on TV, playing chess, peanut butter cups, family visits to New York, and stopping to see his parents in their house on Wertzville Road.
Doug was a lifelong member of River of God Church. He enjoyed the years he served as a boys’ Royal Ranger leader, drawing on the Boy Scout experiences he had leading to the rank of Eagle Scout. He especially loved passing on his knot-tying knowledge to children.
Doug is survived by his wife, Audrey, and his two sons, Craig (Wendy), and Brian (Stephanie); a grandson, Jeffrey (Crystal); and great-grandchildren, Remington and Kimberlylea. Doug is survived by his siblings, Randy (Lisa), Greg (Tomi Fay), Tammy Forbes, and Allen Meadath, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in honor of Doug’s life will be held Sunday, April 15th from 3:00 until 5:00pm at the River of God Church, Enola. Burial will be held at a later time in Prattsburg Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Doug’s son. Brian and Stephanie Forbes are missionaries serving with FIRE International, PO Box 5306, Concord, NC 28027.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sullivan Funeral Home of Enola.
