Geraldine A. “Gerry” Shammo of Enola, 77, passed into Eternal Life at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg on Monday, March 16, 2015.

Born on October 24, 1937 in Mt. Carmel, PA she was a daughter to the late Frederick A. and Florence (Williams) Weary.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Walton Etzweiler Boyd, and a sister, Carolyn E. “Lynn” Bowen, both of Enola.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl A. Kimmel of Middletown; a brother, Fred A. Weary (wife, Susan) of Enola, four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

She retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, and she also worked as a caregiver with Home Instead Senior Care.  She was a former President of (AFSCME), Union Local 2545; a former Recording Secretary of AFSCME, Council 90; and also served as an Executive Board member of AFSCME, Council 13.  She was a past Recording Secretary to the Union Label & Service Trades Council of Pennsylvania AFL-CIO; was a member of AFL-CIO Central Labor Council Community Service Committee; and a member of Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE).

She was presented a Labor Award from the United Way of the Capital Region. She was a member of Enola Sportsman’s Association 

She also served on the East Pennsboro Twp. Recreation Board and as a Vice-President of East Pennsboro Twp. Democratic Club and Area Leader. She was also a member of the Cumberland County Democratic Executive Committee; Tri-County Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women, and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 between 10AM – 11 AM and a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 51 N. Enola Drive, Enola, PA  17025.  Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 6701 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA  17112.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions to be made to Hospice of Central Pa, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA  17110.
