Glenn Steen

Early in the morning of Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the age of 93 Glenn peacefully passed away in his sleep. He was born in Glenburn, ND November 2, 1930, a son of the late Lewis and Alice Steen. After graduating from Glenburn High School in 1948 he enlisted in the Navy reserve and served one year before being recalled and serving in the Korean War January 1952 to November 1953 as an electrician. He was a member of United Association Local 447 in Sacramento for over 50 years as a commercial air conditioning and heating repairman.

When not working he enjoyed traveling all over the country and world with his wife Janelle. They traveled and toured in China, Africa, Russia, Europe, Scandinavia, South America and coming within a few miles of Antarctica. He loved to garden, swim, and in his younger days, hike. He was a member and eventually president of Cabana Club II in Foothill Farms (Sacramento) and was a member of the Vorlage Ski Club, Sacramento.   

He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Janelle Steen, and two step-sons Larry Byrom and Gary Byrom.

He will be missed by his daughter, Karen Veling, her husband Sean and granddaughter Lena of Sacramento, CA; His son Eric Steen  and wife Darlene of Medford, OR; step-son Terry Byrom and wife Elizabeth of Enola, PA; granddaughters Shannon Drake (Adrian) of Milwaukee, WI; Rachel Eisentraut (Bryan) of Carmichael, CA; Misty Ewing-Davis of Sacramento, CA; Kaitlyn Ramos (Luis) of Caldwell, ID and grandson Kenneth Sullivan of Sacramento, CA. He’s also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by sisters JoAnn Kolden of Wallace, SD; Clarice Hance of Minot, ND; Elaine Shong of Billings, MT; Kay Nipko (Rich) of Goodyear, AZ; brothers Tom Steen (Patty) of Bonita Springs, FL; William Steen (Carol) of Reno, NV. 

He was preceded in death by brothers Walter and Milton Steen; sisters Florence Walton and Lorraine Stonecypher.

The burial will be in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA at the convenience of the family.

The family asks any memorial donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
