Born 11/7/1938 and died 3/29/2017
He is survived by the love of his life, Mary, his wife of almost 52 years and children; daughter Rhonda Hebbard (David), son Jeffrey Lank (Tina) and daughter Joy Shill (Todd). He was so very proud of his two granddaughters Riley and Nia. He is also survived by his sister Yvonne Royster (Otis) of Chester, VA; sister-in-law Phyllis Lank; the cousin he loved like a sister, Carol Caruana and many nieces and nephews whom he adored. He was predeceased by his mom Jane Riley Arthur and his father Granville Lank, as well as his younger brother Gale Lank.
Jerry was a deeply passionate and fun-loving man. He was a huge fan of baseball, following the Nationals and Orioles, played in and coached many over 40 softball and baseball leagues, co-created and coached a baseball camp for deaf and hard-of-hearing children. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races with his family both on TV and at Dover Downs!
He was always known as ‘Captain Jerry’ among the boating crowd all along the Eastern Shore of Maryland. An expert captain, he was the one the marina would call to rescue boaters who were out to sea during a storm.
A super businessman and entrepreneur he retired from Getty Petroleum and later owned Aero Oil Company in New Oxford, PA. He was in sales all his life, and swears that everyone is always ‘selling’ something.
Jerry was a devoted Sertoman and a member of the Carlisle Sertoma Club. He was a past district governor and International Director for Sertoma Inc. He met many lifetime friends in that organization and always talked about the importance of getting involved and giving back to your community. “It is what you make it!”
A graduate of Snow Hill High School in Snow Hill, MD and Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington, DE, Jerry believed in education and hard work and taught his children through example.
His dynamic personality, bear hugs, big ol’ belly laughs that could trigger the Richter Scale, and beautiful blue eyes will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure to know him.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sertoma Fantasy Baseball Camp may be mailed to Capital Area Sertoma Club, 10 North Front Street, Suite B Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Lank family.
