John J. Scott, 97, of Mechanicsburg, PA and formerly a resident of Philadelphia and Feasterville, PA. passed away on August 12, 2018 at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg, PA.

He was born December 20, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA to John and Olive (Daniels) Scott.

John was a 1938 graduate of Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia.

After high school he attended Temple University where he studied Journalism.

During WWII he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps (Air Force). He trained and flew 51 missions as a bombardier in the European Theater where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. He successfully became a pilot near the end of WWII and continued in the Air Force Reserve for many years and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He recounted some of those war experiences in the book WWII Reflections by Brian Lockman of PCN.

During his lifetime John used his talents and experience in several occupations: he was a salesman for Packaging Materials Co in Philadelphia; a Real Estate Broker at Earl Heim Real Estate Philadelphia and worked for the PA. Dept. of Transportation in the Right of Way Dept. (St. David’s PA)

John was preceded in death by an infant brother, Bill Scott, then later in life, his brother James Scott.

He married his wife, Mary Frances (Richards), in 1943. They were married for 68 years until her death in 2011. He is survived by two children, John J. Scott Jr. (wife Jean) and Linda K. (Scott) Sunchych (husband Charles) six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Assumption BVM Parish in Feasterville for 50 years prior to his moving to Mechanicsburg (2004) where he became a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Enola, PA.

He was a man of integrity, courage and faith. He overcame life’s challenges through patience, prayer, and determination. His values were most important to him. He was an American patriot who loved his country dearly, who was generous with his time he spent with and helping his family and was admired by all in his positive and humble approach to life.

Viewing will be held on Saturday August 18, 2018, from 9:30 to 11AM 
Our Lady of Lourdes Church 225 Salt Road, Enola Pa. 17025

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11 AM immediately following the viewing at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery 1313 S. York St. Mechanicsburg, PA. 17055
