John K. Rogers, 90, died peacefully on Thursday, August 24th, at Transitions Rehab Facility in Carlisle. He was born January 4th, 1927 in Harrisburg, PA to the late William and Minnie Rogers.

John attended John Harris High School, before entering the U.S. Navy in July 1943.  He was a WWII veteran who survived his ship being torpedoed and sunk by a Japanese U-Boat in the Arabian Sea in March 1944.  John was part of the crew who survived 16 days at sea in a lifeboat before being rescued.  After being discharged, he worked as a Truck driver for Wilson’s Meats, Roadway, Penske and Ryder Trucking spanning a period of more than 50 years.  John was married for 57 years to his loving wife Mary, who preceded him in death in January 2016.  They enjoyed camping and traveling with their family. He loved spending the last 36 years camping at Tuckahoe Acres Camping Resort in Dagsboro, DE. He cherished his times at the beach, working around the camper, clamming in the Indian River Bay, and making memories with his family and friends. John’s greatest love and joy in his life was to be with his family and walking John’s dog Freckles.

John is survived by one daughter, Linda Sullivan, two sons, Rick Washinger and wife Debbie and John J. Rogers and his lifelong companion.  Five grandchildren, Chris Washinger and wife Susan, Shawn Washinger and wife Tara, Michelle Washinger, Daniel Sullivan IV and wife Susan, and Megan Sullivan, ten great-grandchildren, Daniel V, Nathan, Ariel, Andrew, Anthony, Charley and Darrian, Masara, Kalara, Tieara  and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of John’s life will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Sullivan Funeral Home at 51 N. Enola Dr in Enola 17025.  A viewing and visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a service at 7:00 p.m.  Pastor Mira Hewlett of Carlisle United Methodist Church will preside. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.

The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Rogers family.
