Kathy I. Thomas, 65, of New Buffalo, loving mother, grandmother “Mimi”, caregiver to many, and now our lifelong angel, has gained her wings to watch over us. Heaven gained another angel when she died peacefully in her sleep on November 14th, 2018.
She leaves behind her daughters, Crystal Bennett (John Tinker) and Amanda Banks (Abel Banks) and the loves of her life, grandchildren, Emily and Alexandra Bennett, Abigail and Aden Banks all of Newport. Her life revolved around her daughters and grandchildren. Mimi was her grandchildren’s biggest fan. She attended all chorus concerts, field hockey, softball, baseball and soccer games and Special Olympic events. She was the first one at the fields, sometimes before the team, and the loudest in the stands cheering. Her biggest accomplishment was spoiling and loving her grandkids unconditionally. She proudly bragged about her four stars to anyone that would listen.
Kathy was a dedicated and caring Rehab Nursing Tech Specialist for 20 years at HealthSouth Rehab of Mechanicsburg. Known to her work family as “mama”, she had a close relationship with her coworkers, celebrating birthdays and organizing their big win with the lottery. She was a compassionate and caring individual who treated her patients and coworkers like her own family. Her dedication to her job was even evident the night of her passing. As she frequently did during the winter months, she was prepared with her overnight bag and was ready to stay at the hospital for the duration of the storm to take care of her patients.
Outside of her grandchildren’s sports, she was an avid fan of Penn State football, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. She could rattle off stats and was known for yelling at the TV, just like her parents.
Kathy was born on August 21, 1953 in Altoona, daughter of the late John Abner and Martha Jane (Houck) Lloyd of Williamsburg. She has 2 brothers, Richard (Linda) Lloyd of Johnstown and David (Betty) Lloyd of Williamsburg as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews. She was previously married to the late Barrie R Wyland of Williamsburg. Kathy was a 1971 graduate of Williamsburg High School.
Although Kathy’s exit from Earth was unexpected and way too early, her love for her family will never be forgotten. Celebration of Kathy’s Life will be held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1000 N Front St, Liverpool PA on Saturday, November 24th at 11:00, followed by a luncheon and fellowship at noon.
