Kenneth Harry Husler, 95, formerly of West Fairview and Lancaster, PA, passed away of natural causes on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Southeastern Veterans Center in Spring City, PA. Born in West Decatu, PA, Kenneth was the son of the late Harry P. Husler and Mary E. (Heberlig) Husler/Railing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Patricia (Roeser) Husler in January of 2014. Two brothers, Homer V. Husler and Robert B. Husler also preceded him in death.
Kenneth’s childhood and early adolescent years were spent growing up and subsequently working on a variety of farms in both Lebanon and Cumberland Counties. He entered the United States Army in September of 1942 and served his country until December of 1945, receiving an honorable discharge. Kenneth participated in the WWII European Theatre, surviving the Normandy Utah Beach landing on D-Day, fighting as an infantry member in the Battle of the Bulge, and was stationed in England, France, and Belgium during his tenure overseas. He was designated Technician 4th grade, later having attained the rank of Master Sergeant, in Company G of the 171st Combat Engineers.
Upon discharge from the U.S. Army, Kenneth became a longtime member of the printing industry with the former McFarland Printing Company and Kurzenknabe Press of Harrisburg,PA, working as both a pressman and foreman. He was a member of the Leesburg, PA United Methodist Church, a life member of Shellsville VFW Post 9639, and American Legion Post 1001, Harrisburg. Kenneth enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to all styles of music, was a fan of the both the New York Giants and New England Patriots of the NFL, and in his younger days enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving family members include one child; Kenneth M. Husler married to Linda (Barber) Husler of Lancaster; 2 grandchildren, Kristen M. Bound of Perkasie and Matthew S. Husler of New Cumberland and their spouses Christopher P. Bound and Larissa (Grill) Husler; and 2 great-grandchildren, Aiden C. and Nicholas M. Bound of Perkasie.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 10AM-11AM at the Sullivan Funeral Home 51 N. Enola Dr. Enola, PA 17025.
A time of remembrance by the family will begin at 11AM.
Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made in Kenneth’s memory to Shellsville VFW Post 9639, 8926 Jonestown Road, Grantville, PA, 17028.
