Mary H. Skorija
The senior management at the leading retail establishments of Central Pennsylvania is meeting this week to discuss the financial impact of the passing of Mary Helen Skorija in the early hours of Saturday, June the 18th,. Mary was a dedicated shopper seeking the most valuable treasures at the best price possible to spend her time, talent, and treasure to express her love to her family, friends, those in need, and her family of faith from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Mary was born on December 8, 1935, to Joseph and Amelia Pulpan in Conway, Pennsylvania. She attended St. Veronica’s High School and graduated from the Sewickley Hospital School of Nursing. Mary married Charles Skorija on May 28, 1960. While raising a family of four children and serving the best lunches at Bishop McDevitt High School, she worked as an oncology nurse at Holy Spirit Hospital for many years. Throughout her life, she embodied the Christian values of mercy, compassion, and care for the sick. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Harrisburg, PA, served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion to the sick, and visited the homebound. She was a faithful worshiper at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel of the Sacred Heart for over 25 years. In retirement from her career in nursing, she attended daily Mass.
Mary’s legacy of love continues through her family, Mary (John) Wintermote, Arlington, TX; Francis (Anne) Skorija, Harrisburg, PA; John (Julie) Skorija, Gainesville, VA and William (Gloria) Skorija, Harrisburg, PA; her sister, Rose Lakas: six Grandchildren and four great-Grandchildren.
