Rev. Ruth Louise Rahn Bair was called home to be with God Sunday, March 4, 2018. Born Ruth Louise Rahn July 31, 1924, she was raised in Steelton and Wormleysburg and graduated from the former Lemoyne High School in 1943.
Ruth was married 63 years to her beloved husband, Elwood Preston Bair who passed away in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her Father, Raymond Prowell Rahn and her Mother, Nina Jacques Rahn; Sisters Sara Mae Smith, Laura Jeanne Miller, Virginia Ebbert, Saundra Hauck; and Brother Richard Rahn.
She is survived by a Daughter, Kathy and Son-in-Law Russ Lemkelde of Enola; Granddaughter, Heather Cunningham (Rodney) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Great Grandson, Jacob May of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews.
Ruth’s career included positions as Secretary/Receptionist at Penn State Extension College, Harrisburg; and as Telephone Operator at Bell Telephone Company, Harrisburg.
She was an ordained Deacon in The United Methodist Church, serving St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Harrisburg from 1971-1973; and a charter member of Enola Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She served as Visiting Chaplain for the Dauphin County Prison, Women’s Division, for three years.
In 1989, she was honored by the Central Pennsylvania Literacy Council with their Win Smay Tutor of the Year Award, their highest award, for ten years of teaching the handicapped through the Laubauch Literacy Program
Her community involvement included a number of years as Judge of Elections in the former borough of West Fairview.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services will be held Monday, March 12, 2018 at Enola Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 22 Salt Road, Enola, PA 17025. Rev. Mindi Gochnaur officiating. Public viewing and visitation at 10:00 AM; Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
