Robert H. “Bob” Lane, age 90, of Harrisburg, PA passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 24,1928, to George William Lane and Ruth Inez Lane in Luzerne, PA.
Bob grew up on a farm and graduated from Moscow High School in 1946. After high school, he was called to serve in the U.S. Army where he was assigned to an artillery observation battalion. Upon his return to civilian life, he moved to Harrisburg for employment and became a journeyman plumber and member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 520. He was a member of Local 520 for sixty five years and was employed by Herre Brothers, Inc. in Harrisburg until he retired in 1992.
He lived with his wife, Jenine, in Mechanicsburg, PA for sixty years in a home that he built with the help of his three brothers-in-law and father-in-law. He was active in the Shepherdstown United Methodist Church and over the years served on the Board of Trustees, was a member of the choir and also helped with numerous building maintenance issues.
Bob enjoyed watching sports, especially Phillies baseball and Penn State football and basketball. He enjoyed playing golf and dominoes. He was active in his workshop and liked to build furniture and toys. He always had a “modification” to make something work better than the original design. During retirement, Bob loved the challenge of jigsaw puzzles and he completed numerous puzzles of many sizes and shapes.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jenine (Chubb) Lane, two sons George and his wife Diane and their children Jeffrey, Brandon and Stephen and Michael and his wife Lois and their children David, Jonathan, Emily and Jacob, as well as three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth Lane, his two sisters, Francis and Lillian and his two brothers, William and David.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Bob’s life will be held on Friday March 1, at Shepherdstown United Methodist Church, 1934 S. York Street, Mechanicsburg, PA at 11:00am. Visitation will be at 10:00am. Private graveside services will be held at Rolling Green Cemetery.
