Sandra L (Schooley) Mattern, of Camp Hill, died on March 17th, 2016 surrounded by loved ones in her home.
Sandy was born in Williamsport, PA on August 8th, 1941 and raised in Muncy by the late Clifford and Martha Schooley. After graduating from Muncy High School in 1959, she met the love of her life, Jerry Mattern Sr, whom she married and spent 49 incredible years together until his death in 2014. They raised two children, Tammy (deceased 2011) and Jerry Jr. (presently residing in Harrisburg).
After moving from Muncy to East Pennsboro Twp. in 1976, Sandy had several part-time jobs but was best known as the neighborhood Mom who made sure every kid had a ride to and from whatever activities they were involved in. Until her last days, her favorite moments were spent with her children, cousins, and several nephews and nieces who were always welcomed in her home. Sunday Dinner was a requirement for anyone within driving distance and she would spend hours preparing Pennsylvania Dutch meals from recipes handed down by several generations.
Unquestionably, the biggest joy of her life was being a grandmother to Joseph and Nicholas Geraci. For nearly 2 decades, she made it a point to at least talk to them on the phone if they were not able to see her in person. The love was reciprocated; as her health severely deteriorated in her last months, they took turns living with her to keep her as comfortable as possible and remaining in her home of the last 40 years. They were by her side holding her hand as she took her last breath in the living room where they spent many hours together.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 5PM-8PM at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 51 N. Enola Dr., Enola, PA.
Services will be held at a later date.
