Andy was born February 17, 1935 in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania to Peter and Antigone Wood (Chekouras). A graduate of Shippensburg College (University), he spent the majority of his life in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he began his career teaching U.S. History at Thomas Edison Junior High School. In 1960, he embarked on a distinguished, 40-year career at AMP Incorporated. He was a long-standing member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Harrisburg, where for many years, among other things, he served as an usher, sang in the choir, and volunteered at the Annual Capital Region Greek Festival.
An avid reader, Andy enjoyed his daily newspaper and varied books. Among his other admirable attributes, he will always be known for having a very calm, stoic and even-keeled demeanor. In a time of uncertainty or crisis, Andy was the one you wanted by your side to bring a sense of control and level-headedness. His post-retirement life was a quiet but powerful reminder of the strength found in serenity. As a history buff, Andy often regaled his grandchildren with the family history. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his calm and steadfast presence. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 11th , from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the funeral service immediately following at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1000 Yverdon Drive Camp Hill, PA 17011. One memory on “Andrew P. Wood”
Andy was a terrific mentor for new instructors at the AMP Institute. He knew the product as well as anyone and freely gave his time to us to answer questions or explain the history of the product.
