Darlene J. Kepes

Share Obituary!

Darlene J. Kepes, daughter of the late Harold and Betty Summy Miller, died peacefully in the early morning hours of April 22, 2023.  Dar was born in TN, but grew up in Freeport, PA.  She and her husband of 55 years, Louis, moved to the Enola area from Natrona shortly after the birth of their son, Louie.

For many years Dar was an active member and volunteer at the West Enola Fire and Ambulance, when she wasn’t working at the old Hattie Harris, and later for East Pennsboro Ambulance Association.  Serving and giving to others gave her the greatest joy in life, along with her family and her love of all animals, just not snakes!

Darlene is survived by her husband Lou, son Louie, special sister and caregiver, Dee Weaver, and “adopted” sister, Carol. She is also survived by granddaughters, Nikki, Ashley and Jeanne and great-grandchildren Landon, Ryan, Layton, Laceigh and Julian.

Additional siblings include Kathie, Delores, Ken, Tim, Carol, Eddie Jay, and Rosella and in-law siblings Jen, Mary Ann, Mike, Bob and Jan.  Dar was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Bob Dintaman, her step-mother Rose Miller, and her brother David Miller.

Graveside services will be held at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11AM.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Darlene’s name to your favorite animal rescue.

The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Kepes family.

  1. When I worked for Senior Helpers, Mrs. Kepes was my favorite person to take care of. She was so kind and funny. I even brought my infant son over to her and her husbands home when I was off so she could meet him. Our memories of us together will always be cherished. To the Kepes family, I am sending my deepest condolences and prayers to you all.

  2. Lou, Louie, I am so so sorry for your loss, I do know every time I seen your Mother& Wife, she always made me feel like one of the Family, yes she sure will really be missed. I feel really Honored to know. Dar. Louie, Lou.

  3. Lou, Louie, Nikki, Ashley, and Jeanne,

I am very sorry to hear of Darlene’s passing. I am sure Bobby Parnell was the first to greet her in Heaven. There are so many good and funny stories about times at the West Enola Fire Station. Many a time, we would be talking with Darlene on the porch of her home, only to dash off as the pager and siren went off. I will miss her. You are all in my thoughts.

  4. To my dear sister in law who tried so earnestly to teach me to bake (with little success ) and who always made the best macaroni salad on the planet. You were always there for me and we shared many happy times. And even though you were never a fan of my pet snake Checkers, we shared a genuine love of animals! You will be sadly missed as you now rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord.

  5. Nana,
