Doreen Marie Shoop of Camp Hill was called home to be with her Lord on October 7, 2023.
Doreen was born on September 6, 1964, in Harrisburg, the daughter of Darlene Swab and Ernest Carr, Sr.
She attended Upper Dauphin schools in Elizabethville and went on to study at HAAC where she graduated with an RN in Nursing. She continued her studies with a BSN and a master’s in nursing from Walden University and had almost completed her PhD at the time she passed. Doreen had hoped to work in research for those suffering from breast cancer.
Doreen started her career at Osteopathic Hospital on Union Deposit Road but then moved to Hershey Medical Center where she spent many years in various areas, including the ER and women’s health. A compassionate person, Doreen loved being a nurse and brought competence and caring into her interaction with patients.
Doreen was active in the Salem United Church of Christ in Harrisburg, where she was an avid member of the Adult Sunday School, always asking thought-provoking questions.
Doreen loved being with her grandchildren. She was an avid crafter – scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, and doing cross stitch. She enjoyed going on vacations and traveling, and being with her dogs.
Doreen is survived by son, Brock Koch of Camp Hill; daughter, Tionie Gottshall of Enola; father, Ernest Carr, Sr. of Enola; mother, Darlene Swab of Millersburg; brother, Ernest Carr, Jr, also of Enola; and grandchildren Cayden Koch, Madison Lentvorsky, Delilah and Cooper Meik, and dogs Primrose and Dexter.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 5 at 1 p.m. at the Salem United Church of Christ, 231 Chestnut Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. A light luncheon will be served before the service at 12 p.m.
The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Shoop family.

I’m so sorry to hear of Doreen’s passing. We worked together at Osteo and had many fun times working together. She was a great person and loved to laugh. I was at her wedding and we kept in touch for quite a while after she left Osteo to further her career. Unfortunately we lost touch but I think of her fondly. Rest in peace my friend.
I loved my grandma Doreen. She was my favorite person and I miss her so much. I cried so much at her service and that night was even worse. I know she’s always with me and forever will be. She always made sure I got what I needed. She was so kind to those who were around her. She was so grateful for her friends. Roxie and Reese loved her so much and always got excited when she came home. We have so many good memories together. Word cannot even begin to describe how much I love and miss her. I wish she was still here. But she will forever watch over me and love me. I love you so much gramma. Never forget that.
Doreen was a gem. She loved her family so much. Her and her son Brock were very close.
I want to thank you Doreen for accepting my granddaughter Madison Lentvorsky as your own granddaughter.

My memory is when we were kids my cousin and friend we had a lot of good times.. time goes by and we lost touch but will never forget doing crazy stuff when we were kids!!
Doreen I met you at Hershey as a coworker who became a friend. We spent time talking, eating and enjoying things. You thrived once you went back to school wanting to learn all you could. You had a big heart! 🩷. I will miss you!
Doreen was a friend, ‘fellow Salemite, adopted each other as a sister and was a former neighbor, I had the pleasure of teaching her how to do hand embroidery. We spent many pleasant weeks talking about our faith, and laughing while doing embroidery.
See you again in heaven dear sister in Christ.
We were so glad that Doreen became a member at Salem UCC in Harrisburg. She was smart, funny, and kind. Doreen had a strong faith, and we are glad that she is with God, and resting in his love and light.
