Gwen (Gwendolyn) ‘Honey’ Irene Myers, 94, died October 8th at The Bridges of Bent Creek, Mechanicsburg, PA. She was the daughter of Katharyne I. (Anderson) & Harper George Myers. Gwen was married to Jack E. Myers for 56 years until his death in 2011.
Gwen was born in Harrisburg September 9, 1932 and graduated from John Harris High School. After graduating, she worked for Nationwide Ins. until she became a stay-at-home mom before starting to work at Weis Markets. She loved working for Weis Markets starting as a cashier and finishing as a front end supervisor after 28 years. She was the last original member of the ‘Mixed Nuts’ bowling league, retiring from there in 2024 at the age of 92. Many friends witnessed her ‘flipping the bird’ at the pins that wouldn’t fall over.
Gwen loved doing all kinds of crafts, but her specialty was crocheting, especially for family and friends. Her family all received blankets and the babies all received sweater sets. Gwen and Jack loved to camp and spent many weekends around the campfire with family and friends. She loved getting together with family and being with all the little ones.
Gwen is survived by 2 daughters, Beth Mohn (Jeff) and Dona Shermeyer (Mark) and 1 son, Edward Myers. Her siblings are Carolyn Rothenberger, Marilyn Stroup (Dennis) and Harper G. Myers, Jr. (Bambi). She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gwen was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Thomas Rothenberger.
We would like to thank all the staff at The Bridges for the wonderful care they gave Mom and her family during her stay with them. The employees were absolutely fantastic. A special thanks to Amedisys Hospice as well.
