Joseph Louis Pugarelli, age 79, passed away on September 25th, 2026 in Mechanicsburg, PA. He was born in Staten Island, NY on June 2nd, 1947 to Gloria and Serafino Pugarelli.

Joe attended Port Richmond High School, then proudly and honorably served in the Vietnam War for the U.S. Army from 1968-1972, earning marksman and National Service medals as well as two overseas Service bars.

As an avid baseball enthusiast, he played well in his youth, including opportunities to play with both the New York Yankees and New York Mets.

Joe was a musician. He sang and played guitar and played with local bands in the 1960s and 1970s. He had the privilege of singing with the Keynotes which included radio play by DJ “Murray The K.”

Joe worked as a Safety Officer for New York State at Willowbrook State School and later at the same campus for College of Staten Island for 30 years. He retired in 2011.

Joe was married to the late Elizabeth Hicks from 1984-1998.

He is survived by his siblings, Irma Lovari, Nancy Jamrogiewicz, Robert Pugarelli , Gina Pugarelli, and was predeceased in death by his loving sister, Louise Mello. He was also fondly referred to as Uncle Joey by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Joe (Joey) will always be remembered for his exceptional personality and wonderful sense of humor.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 10AM-11AM at the Sullivan Funeral Home 51 N. Enola Dr. Enola PA 17025.

Services will begin at 11AM on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at the funeral home.
