Lauren Marie Keeney, 37, of Mechanicsburg, transitioned peacefully surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born on Monday, October 19, 1987, Lauren received the ultimate gift of life on Friday, December 1, 2006, when she received her heart transplant. As Lauren always reminded everyone, a heart transplant is a treatment, not a cure. She was proud to be an eighteen-year heart transplant survivor who never gave up.
Lauren, born and raised in Mechanicsburg, graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School in 2006. She recently earned a certificate for Organizational Management from The Giant University through Central Penn College.
Lauren worked for The Giant Company, beginning in high school as a cashier and held many positions within Giant Foods at various stores and then within the e-commerce part of their business for first with Pea Pod, then Giant Direct. She implemented a management training program at the distribution center, and most recently, was Manager of Distribution Operations at the Giant Company Perishable Distribution Center.
Lauren is survived by her best friend, travel partner, and the love of her life, her husband Peter Watson of Mechanicsburg; her loving parents, David and Cheryl Keeney of Mechanicsburg, her devoted brother, Corey Keeney of Landisburg, her maternal grandfather, Jim Snyder of Camp Hill, her beloved Yorkie, Riley Marie, and a large extended network of family and friends.
A memorial service for Lauren will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Kathryn Z. Johnston officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to the time of the service. A gathering of family and friends will be held immediately after her service in Bentzel Hall at the American Legion Post #109, Mechanicsburg.
Lauren and her family are thankful to the medical staff at Hershey Medical Center’s Heart & Vascular Institute for their love and care over the years through countless check-ups and procedures before, during, and after her heart transplant.
Lauren’s family has entrusted her care with Sullivan Funeral Home.

Lauren was our friend and family in every respect. She had a great sense of humor and was so much fun to play cards with. She was a true person that didn’t sugar coat her feelings and that is a great personality trait. She left a void in our world that can’t be measured and only our memories will lessen that void. We hope her family and friends will rely on their good memories as well.
Sincerely,
La & Joe

It was an honor to have known Lauren Keeney. She was a truly great person—sweet, caring, and always so warm. Her smile had a way of lighting up a room, and she made everyone feel welcomed and valued. Lauren’s kindness and genuine spirit will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. We have seen her family support her and glad she was surrounded with so much love.♡
