Louise Mello 1945 – 2021
Louise Mello passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 6, 2021, at her home in Enola, PA. She was 76.
A lover of all the traditions and dishes of her Italian-American upbringing, Louise was most at home surrounded by her large extended family for Sunday dinners and celebrations. Her laughter could regularly be heard throughout the house during marathon storytelling sessions over coffee and dessert. She had a particular talent for creating personalized cards for family members’ birthdays, was an avid Scrabble player and completer of crossword puzzles, with a particular fondness for the music and movies of the 1940s. Louise’s sense of humor, quick wit, selflessness, and unwavering loyalty will be sorely missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Louise “Lulu” Pugarelli was born on March 11, 1945, in Staten Island, NY, to Serafino Pugarelli and Gloria (Percoco) Pugarelli. Seeking the opportunities that lay across New York Harbor, Louise joined the ranks of the Manhattan legal and financial workforce. She retired as an accomplished legal secretary from the global firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP after 25 years. It was during this time, working in the Financial District, that she met Kenneth H. Mello, a custodian and U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, whom she married in 1983. Together they shared a love of trips to Atlantic City and amassed a sizable collection of classic films meticulously chronicled by year and title. Kenneth died of cancer in 2010.
Louise is survived by her loving family including siblings Joseph Pugarelli, Irma (Pugarelli) Lovari and husband Frank, Nancy (Pugarelli) Jamrogiewicz widow of Paul, Robert Pugarelli and wife Diana, and Gina (Pugarelli) Bello; beloved nieces and nephews Natalie Tomasello and husband Nick, Jeffrey Lovari, Anthony Lovari and wife Leland, Raymond Pugarelli and wife Kristin, Jessica Pugarelli, Amanda Pugarelli, Gloria Sullivan, Lauren Lovari, Matthew Sullivan, Gianna Murray and husband Jordan, and Adria Bello; great-nieces and nephews Amber Tomasello, Serafina Tomasello, Marissa Lovari, Jonathan Tomasello, Raymond Pugarelli, Jr., Giuliana Lovari, Hunter Combs, Elizabeth Tomasello, Ariana Pugarelli, Dylan Pugarelli, Michael Lovari, Dean Murray, and Luca Murray; great-great-niece Elianna Bruhn; grandchildren Laura Musso and husband Rob and Joseph Mello; great-grandchild Nicholas Musso and three step-children. My sister Diane and I worked with Louise for years and had more laughs than you could ever imagine. She worked in the trust and estate department with us at Cravath. She was a great secretary and friend to all who worked with her. Diane and I spoke with Louise about a year ago and again we laughed a lot. I will miss her and so will my sister.
So sorry to hear aboit Lulu passing. I remember when I was young living in South Beach on Norway Ave. When she came over with Uncle Nino to grandma house to visit. Nice times. Over the years I saw her at occasions.. Now that I am older it seems a shame that we never kept in closer contact. That goes for all cousins , aunts and uncles. I hope all of you are well.
