Madeline Helen (Hvizdash) Minarich

Share Obituary!

Madeline Helen (Hvizdash) Minarich of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away peacefully in her home in the wee hours of Friday, March 22, 2024. She was 86 years old.

She was known for her friendly demeanor and sense of humor, as well as her sense of style, and was consistently mistaken for being much younger than she was.

Madeline was born in Philipsburg, PA in 1937, and was raised in the hamlet of Hawk Run by her parents, John and Susan (Andrews) Hvizdash. Madeline graduated from Morris Township High School in 1957, and went on to Beauty School in State College. After receiving her Beautician’s license, she worked in Johnny Brenish’s Beauty Salon in Chester Hill.

She married the love of her life, Eugene “Gene” Minarich, in 1962, and moved to Mechanicsburg in 1968. They had three sons, all of whom survive: Scott and wife, Betty; Christopher; and Jonathan and wife, Amy. Madeline is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Amber, Trenton, Adam and Kyle. Preceding her in death were her husband, Gene, her siblings, Martha and John, and an infant grandson, Jacob.

When her children were old enough to take care of themselves, Madeline began working handing out promotional samples to grocery store customers, a job that suited her friendly and outgoing personality.

She was raised Catholic and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg for decades. With the founding of Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Mechanicsburg in 2004, she began attending services with her husband, a founding member, and was officially received into Orthodoxy and the parish in 2017, where she has been a faithful and beloved member ever since.

She will be buried next to her husband, Gene, at Holy Apostles Cemetery.

Services will be officiated by Fr. Timothy Hojnicki.

Visitation and services will be all be held at the Church.

  1. Scott and family,
So sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. She was a great neighbor and friend. May you find peace and comfort knowing she is with your dad.

  2. So sorry to hear of your loss. Your mother always was so cheerful and couldn’t have been a better person and neighbor to my mother, Evelyn Foye.
My deepest sympathies to you and your family.
