Marjorie R. Dougherty

On Saturday, July 6th, 2024 at 06:49 a.m., Marjorie Ruth Dougherty, maiden name Gruver, 70, Mechanicsburg PA passed away peacefully at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.  She is survived in life by her brother-in-law Thomas Dougherty, two sons Robert Dougherty Jr. and Shaun Dougherty, faithful “family-daughter” Melinda Rodriguez, Melinda’s husband Miguel Rodriguez, along with the rest of her caring family, and friends.

Born and raised in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania with her father, mother, and two sisters, she learned unconditional family values.  Marjorie has been reunited with her beloved husband Robert Dougherty Sr., the man who gifted her a most enviable and heartfelt 29 years of loving marriage and unforgettable memories before passing November 21st, 2014.

Throughout her years Marjorie walked with an inseparable devotion to her Christian beliefs, a faith which gave her the spiritual serenity to carry on during the worst times, the enlightenment to be grateful during the best, and the hope to leave an indelible mark of patient and peaceful loving kindness to those around her.

During most of her adult life she worked diligently at her career for the Federal civilian workforce of the Navy as a safety and facility inspections manager for NAVSEA at the Navy Depot. in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.  While working she took part in ABWA (the American Business Women’s Association) an organization devoted to providing diverse occupations and opportunities to help women grow both personally and professionally.  She also strived to make further strides for professional women through training in public speaking, and leadership skills from a world renowned organization known as Toastmasters International, eventually to become an accredited speaker.

In her spare time Marjorie enjoyed playing cards, Yahtzee among other games, watching her favorite crime dramas on TV, and offering socializing with close family and friends.  She was an undeniable lifelong fan of Elvis Presley and an expert on Elvis’s life, career, and iconic legacy having collected much memorabilia over the years.  In this time of remembrance, we would like to thank the CV/ICU ward staff of Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center for their support and expertise throughout our emotional hardship during her transition to passing.

An hour viewing and service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.  The viewing is from 10 to 11 a.m., and service at 11 a.m. at First Church of God, 9 Sherwood Dr. Enola PA, 17025 to celebrate her life. Anyone who would appreciate the chance to celebrate her life may attend.

The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Dougherty family.

  1. Margie was always a shining light at NSLC, she was a positive influence on all she came in contact with. I spent many of hours with Margie as she taught me so many things I needed to know. She will be missed, my thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

  2. Margie was one of the first people I met when j was hired at NSLC. She helped me out getting started with my career along with Joyce Fishel. Rest in peace.
