Mike was part of my fedex family. A family like no other. I enjoyed seeing him at work everyday. We shared some common health issues, so it was nice to talk to someone who could understand the pain and complications due to those issues. Even with all that he was dealing with, he always took the time to check in and see how I was feeling as well. We talked about work, his travels, and he told me stories of his crazy younger years. ” I my younger years….” He made me laugh and was a great person to talk with. We would see each other in passing and with a glance or look at work, we would smile or laugh, with some inside jokes we shared. Mike was truly a wonderful person, real, down to earth, and caring. Almost heaven! Well you have arrived! I will see you when I get there!!! Until then my friend!
I worked with Mike for many years. The one memory that will forever stick out, is when I told him that my son was going to his alma mater, West Virginia University. Mike was so happy and would always ask how “The Mountaineer” was doing while at school. That and being in the WVU marching band you could tell, it brought back fond memories.
Rest in Eternal Peace Mike!!!
…Almost Heaven
Mike was a lifelong friend to me. He was actually like a brother to me. Through our dads being best friends we’ve known each other for 50+ years. I love that man. His perspective on life, his values and sense of humor were like no other. Learned a lot from him. Truly honest thinking person and always willing to say it like it is. Never afraid. Clean conscience. A great way to live.
Rest in peace my brother.
I hadn’t seen Mike much over the last 9 years since I moved out west for good in 2017. But whenever I visited I always ended up at Mike’s kitchen table talking like we had known each other forever. Funny thing is, on paper, we really shouldn’t have been good friends. We didn’t particularly have many interests in common and our upbringings were the complete opposite. But I spent over 15 years talking with him on a daily basis at FedEx and we developed a connection that lasted. Mike was an interesting person; a rough start to life and fiercely independent as a result, a master of dropping F bombs, blunt and to the point, generous beyond reason, and a conqueror of many demons. We connected over our mutual love of traveling the west, our recognition of the constant BS we were expected to endure at FedEx, our appreciation for the absurd and our common conservative values. Mike took an interest in everyone he came across at work and was easy to talk to. He once told me he’d be fine being a hermit but I wasn’t buying it. His connections with people seemed to be way to important to him. He loved his wife and daughter more than life but he would do anything for a friend. I appreciated Mike’s sense of humor and the way he made work more tolerable. He was a unique man and he’ll be missed. Rest in peace Michael…..you earned it!
My deepest condolences to the entire Kilmore Family. Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
R.I.P. Mike
Mike and I graduated from Red Land class of 1980 together. We new each other but didn’t run the same circles. Mike made a FedEx delivery to my home in Newport filling in for another driver 5 or 6 years ago. He said you don’t recognize do you? No I replied. As soon as he said his name instant recognition and memories. We had the most pleasant conversation.
Rest in peace my friend
