Richard J Aikens Jr, (75), of Camp Hill, passed away on January 11, 2023, after a lengthy illness.

Richard (Dick) was born to Richard J Aikens Sr. and Laura C Crozier on January 26, 1947. He is survived by four children, Lori Abbott (Dover, PA), Steven Aikens (Enola, PA), Danny Aikens (Camp Hill, PA), Tami Mellott (Gardners, PA), nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Swart (Steelton, PA), Shirley Gross (Bethlehem, PA), and Doris Bender (Millsboro, DE).

Richard was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Anna M (Smith); his parents, Richard and Laura Aikens; a great-granddaughter, Savannah Aikens; a sister, Nancy Price, and several nephews.

Richard was a hard worker who loved spending time with his family and friends. Whether it was playing horseshoes, a lively water volleyball match, a rousing whiffle ball game or just burning hotdogs at a family BBQ, all that mattered was that he was with those he loved.  A lifelong Notre Dame fan, he enjoyed a spirited rivalry with all his Penn State family and friends. Richard loved making others laugh. A modern-day Dr. Doolittle, Richard never met an animal he didn’t try to save. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 20, 2023, at River of God Church, 747 Wertzville Rd, Enola, PA 17025 where a memorial service will be held immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Aikens family.
